“I wanna hang a map of the world in my house. Then I’m gonna put pins into all the locations that I’ve traveled to. But first, I’m gonna have to travel to the top two corners of the map so it won’t fall down.”

“I have a map of the United States. It’s original size. It says one mile equals one mile.”
I appreciated the link to the Yeah Yeah Yeah's Maps song. First listen - now added to a playlist ( “Morning”, of all things ). ”Love” and Maps - not a straight line, but the comments in YouTube possibly explained the song (competing explanations, you know - because it's 2025 ). Singer was a geography major; no it was written for a lost love ( My Angus Please Stay ).
One element of mapping is “ connecting the dots “ - like any Benjamin Errett “Get Wit Quick” article :)
"On the Impossibility of Drawing a Map of the Empire on a Scale of 1 to 1" Eco appreciates that drawing a world-size map is actually the easy part. The hard part is folding it, risking "a situation aptly termed scrotum catastrophe." (p. 103)
Wonderful as always. I can now happily hold on to my box of maps
I’ll let you know if we need them!
Dear Benjamin,
Great piece! Love these quotes:

Thanks for sharing as always!
