“I believe in getting into hot water; it keeps you clean.”
― G.K. Chesterton

You can be a provocateur and be in good faith. Chesterton (1874-1936), a devout Roman Catholic, might even argue he was in the best faith.

“Good intentions are invariably ungrammatical.”
― Oscar Wilde

Oscar was said to have spent an entire morning working to insert a comma into a line, and an entire afternoon working to take it out. Critique the product all you want; you must respect that process.

“The dusk was performing its customary intransitive operation of ‘gathering’.”
― Flann O'Brien

For some reason, writers who write about writing are much more common than plumbers who plumb about plumbing. Those who do it correctly — as the Irish writer does in this bit of meta-setting — you clear the mental clogs right out of the genre.
