Did social media ruin everything, or was it just an accelerant of all the worst things? As an inveterate optimist, I’d like to say it didn’t just lay waste to media, politics, culture, and the human attention span. I’d like to say it also gave us some amazing distillations of all that energy and connection. If billions of us got together on a handful of platforms, shouldn’t a few wonderful things happen? Sure, lots of bad things, but at least a couple of examples on the good side of the ledger?
